Unlike Canada, national parks in the United States generally do not allow dogs, and Glacier National Park is no exception. That being said, as a traveler type, taking your dog on your northwest Montana vacation may be in your best interest.
Dog Friendly Lodging Near Glacier National Park
Dogs are not allowed on backcountry trails in Glacier National Park. This can pose a big problem since backcountry hiking is one of the most popular activities in the area. You can bring your dog to the park, and leashed dogs are allowed on the road, in campsites and in parking lots. Dogs are also allowed in the village areas (Many Glacier, Lake McDonald, Apgar). Dogs are allowed on the bike trails around Apgar and on the highway west of West Glacier.
Glacier Park Lodging Facilities
National forests are more dog-friendly than national parks, and you can walk your dog in most of the Flathead National Forest. Although leashes are required in most areas, leash laws do not appear to be strictly enforced.
Local towns have common dog laws and regulations. Just south of Kalispell is a small (3.5 acres) dog park at Big Park.
