Dog Friendly Hotel Chains – Going on vacation can be difficult for pet owners as they have to decide whether to put them up at a local boarding house (we call it a doggy hotel!) or bring them along! These days, there are many hotel chains that have become pet friendly. In fact, many of them pay a lot of attention to our four-legged friends, creating parks and trails especially for dogs. Talk about making it! According to a 2016 survey by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, more than 70 percent of luxury, mid-range and economy hotels allow pets.
Before we tell you more about hotel chains, let’s take a look at the pet travel checklist. We recommend that you keep the following items in your dog bag:

The list goes on and on, but we’ll cover these points. Feel free to add to your checklist! Now let’s talk about hotel chains that accept pets:

We recommend that you call your hotel in advance to confirm their dog rules. Sometimes they charge an additional deposit and/or fee. Also, you can only get one dog. All hotels are different, so it’s always best to call ahead!

A few years ago we discovered a chain that was more dog friendly than others, so we always chose that one when booking a hotel. Big advantage: Dogs live freely. Additionally, you are allowed to leave dogs alone in your hotel room as long as they do not disturb other guests. SOLD OUT!
However, since then I think the big hotel chains have caught on to the fact that Americans want to travel with their pets. So they should be more friendly to animal-loving visitors. However, many hotels have always welcomed service dogs and continue to do so for free.
Now that I know which major airlines in the United States accept dogs and which airports accept pets, I thought it was time to talk about the major hotel chains that allow pets. As I wrote in this article about traveling with a dog, we already know that some boutique brands welcome pets. These include Aloft (part of the Marriott family) and Kimpton (part of InterContinental Hotels or IHG).

But what about other big chains like Marriott and IHG? Here are the top 10 hotel chains I found:
The Marriott Bonvoy family includes many different brands. This includes the aforementioned Aloft hotels.
According to Marriott’s page on the chain’s pet-friendly hotel brands, these are the most welcoming for your pets:
Although they are marketed as pet-friendly accommodations, dogs are not free. Additionally, Marriott may refuse to accommodate your pet based on its weight or breed. So check in advance before you book.

At Hilton Hotels chain brands, you will have no problem booking a room with a pet:
Now, pets don’t stay free at Hilton hotels. Whenever we stay with Oscar and Sadie at the Hilton, we always pay for each pet. It ranges from $50 per animal per night to $75 per night.
For many years, my mother-in-law lived in New York, so we traveled often to see her and spend Christmas with her. As he lives in a small apartment, we cannot live with him. So we had to stay in a pet friendly hotel. However, due to the fact that it is always very difficult to find a dog to walk on Christmas Eve or Christmas Eve, the amount of time we spend with him is limited.
Pet Friendly Hotel Chains With No Fees
We immediately became aware of the pet policy of IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) hotels, especially Kimpton hotels in Manhattan. We were in New York with all of them.
Not only did these Kimptons help us find a dog walker, but they allowed us to leave Oscar and Sadie alone in the room when we went out, if needed. That is, as I said before, as long as they don’t disturb other guests.
Also, because we are members of the rewards program and have an IHG credit card, we do not pay a fee for dogs to stay with us. Note: The hotel mentioned in my Instagram story above is no longer part of the Kimpton chain. It’s still called the Ink 48 Hotel, and it’s still pet-friendly. However, I don’t know if they have the same rules as Kimpton.
Choice Hotels International and its brands’ pet policy allows pets in most locations with certain restrictions. According to their website, these are the pet-friendly Choice Hotels brands:

I could not find an official pet policy for Radisson hotels in the United States. There seem to be some pet packages for hotels overseas, but none in North America. I’ll keep digging. Also, if you represent Radisson brands or chains and are aware of the pet policy – with link – please contact us.

Some of the Red Roof Inn brands have weight restrictions and/or restrictions on the number of pets in a room with their family. Additionally, Red Roof’s Hometown Studios pet policy varies by location and fees may apply.
Accor Hotel chain is mainly a foreign brand. However, there are several Accor locations in the United States under the Sofitel brand. Sofitel brands seem to welcome dogs with open arms, including in-room dining, free stays and discounts at nearby grooming salons.
