One of the most dog-friendly lodges in Queensland is The Summit 1770, a venue designed specifically for dogs and their owners, just outside Agnes Water. In addition to three dog-friendly cottages near the summit, a caravan park has also recently been developed near the entrance.
There’s a mix of powered and non-powered pitches, along with a great camp kitchen and amenity block. But it’s the dog facilities that really stand out.
Directly across from the main amenities area is a large dog park, complete with dam. There is also a smaller dog walking next to the place to watch the sunset. Additionally, since my stay in 2021, kennels have been added to three of the supported sites. Arrive early to get one of the sites with a private 3 x 3 meter dog kennel.

Only about half of the caravan parks in Mackay allow pets, with one of the pet-friendly parks being Mycow Bakers Creek Caravan Park, in the south of the town. Since pets are allowed in the grassy area and there’s no electricity, this is a great place to stay for the night or longer.
This small park has a great camp kitchen and has several relaxing spots along the river. However, a recent addition to the park that makes it more dog-friendly is the fenced dog walking area, at the far end of the park from the river.

TheWalkamin Caravan Park is a friendly caravan park located between Mareeba and Atherton. If you want to visit Fraser Island while traveling with your dog, the Fraser Coast RV Park is the ideal place to stay. The park is not far from the River Heads Ferry Terminal but also has pet care services. Reservations are required as the service is always fully booked.
Back at the campsite, dogs are welcome in some parts of the campsite, but also at Bertha the Aussie Van. We stayed in the nearby Dogs Corner area with a great camp kitchen and unique amenities area. A nature reserve with designated walking paths is also nearby.
