This wooded park on Vancouver’s west side is a great place for dog walking. With more than 55 km of routes, there are many options and itineraries to choose from. Use the plan map to find out which routes and areas are dog-friendly and require leashes.
Cypress Falls Park in West Vancouver is a beautiful canyon with two spectacular waterfalls. It’s a short, easy hike, perfect for hikers and children of all abilities. A visit to the village of Brother’s Creek in West Vancouver doesn’t involve climbing a mountain, but there are many beautiful things to see such as old cedars, waterfalls, fern-lined streams, a small but beautiful lake, and little damage. We couldn’t leave Dog Mountain off our list of the best dog-friendly hikes in Vancouver. This popular trail starts from the Mount Seymour ski park and winds through the forest to a wide, rocky overlook. There are no big hills, but the uneven terrain and muddy water will slow you down. Dogs must be kept on a leash for this tour.
An easy walk around Buntzen Lake winds through a beautiful rainforest filled with ferns, moss and small waterfalls. You will also cross a floating bridge and a suspension bridge. Your dog must be on a leash during the walk, but you can go for an off-leash swim afterwards at the designated dog beach just east of the South Beach picnic area. Coquitlam’s Minnekhada Regional Park is a great hike for dogs and people because it is mostly flat, with only one climb up to a beautiful view. With parking at over 1,000m at Mount Seymour Resort, Dog Mountain is an easy walk to beautiful views of the city of Vancouver and Burnaby, while also offering spectacular mountain views to the north and west.
Although Dog Mountain is a popular destination year-round, it is especially popular in the winter because it is one of the few hikes that are accessible to all experience levels. Easy on the body, hardly needs snowshoes, well signposted, no snow, pet and family friendly, beautiful snow views everywhere, breathtaking views on a clear day. This tour ticks all the boxes, as it is very popular, so we highly recommend starting early if you go in winter.
Dog Mountain is less busy in the summer, mostly because there are more summer and winter hiking options, but it’s still popular for easy hikes and beautiful views, even if the trail is rough and root-filled.
Dog Friendly Off Leash Hikes In Vancouver
This is one of the best options near Vancouver in terms of effort/cost because the hike is easy and the views are fantastic. I would have to say it’s better for something like Bowen Lookout, and I’d say it has more views of Eagle Bluffs and maybe Hollyburn Peak.
Keep in mind that if you want to go this winter when the lodge is open, you can stop by the parking lot when the gate opens at the end of the road, usually at 7:00 am. In the summer, when the ski resort is not in operation, there is no door.
