Christmas In Quebec: A Perfect Dog Friendly Holiday Getaway

You might be lucky enough to see a photo of your dog relaxing at Auberge du Lac Taureau on our website! It is enough to recognize us in the pictures you post on social networks (Facebook and Instagram). Who will be the next star on our wall of fame? Looking for a fun Christmas getaway with your pup? If you like cold, snow and the whole Christmas atmosphere, Christmas in Quebec is the perfect dog destination. The drive from New York to Quebec, Canada took about nine hours and was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken!

Despite the long journey, this vacation was worth it! You see, during the holidays, Quebec turns into a Christmas village like a Charles Dickens novel; Christmas song. Where to stay, what to do and what to eat with a puppy.

I stayed at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, dog friendly. St. Lawrence, this hotel is like a castle in the sky. The five-star hotel is the most photographed hotel in the world! The hotel allows two pets of any size for a fee of USD 50 CDA per night.

The interior of the hotel was fully decorated for the holiday and there was a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the room. We didn’t have to wait long to check in and to our surprise, Gatsby was patiently waiting in line with us even though he had traveled so far. The hotel staff made sure Gatsby was well taken care of. He doesn’t eat, so we asked the hotel to prepare salmon and grilled meat for him. The staff even asked Gatsby if his salmon was cooked properly!

The best thing about Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is that they offer dog sitting! Danny and I booked a babysitter to come when we went out to eat and when we went dog walking. They paid $26/hour (CAD) for a minimum of 3 hours for a babysitter to come to our room to watch Gatsby. You can tell the caretaker to stay in the room only, or you can let the caretaker walk your dog and play in the snowy park in front of the hotel.

We walked Gatsby on the Dufferin Terrace, the terrace surrounding the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. In this elevated area, Old Quebec and St. Lawrence. There is a huge queue at the top of the walkway (270 meters high) to go down the hill on a toboggan that goes down at 60 miles per hour! Gatsby stayed nearby and it was fun watching people approach the slide!

The German Christmas market is open from November 22nd to December 23rd and is the last day of the holiday market. We wandered the market and found Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas cookies and sausages, pretzels, wine and more. We found unique and beautiful Quebec handmade items and dishes as well as other German foods.

The next place we checked out was the QuartierPetit Champlain District. This place is an Instagram-worthy getaway! The narrow cobblestone streets are filled with lights and holiday decorations. I loved visiting the boutiques and some of them even let Gatsby join me.

Dog Friendly Places To Stay For Ski Vacation

Place Royale is just steps away from the Petit Champlain district and we visited Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, the oldest Roman Catholic church in North America.

Go to Place des Canotiers, an organized square along the river St. Lawrence River. Here Gatsby played in the snow and we walked by the river admiring the great snow caps.

Unfortunately, we were unable to eat at any of the restaurants in the area as there was no outdoor seating. During the warmer months, restaurants have outdoor seating and many people eat outside with their dogs. The only place that offered outside seating was Pub des Borgiain the Winter. Although it was cold, we sat outside because Gatsby was not allowed in the pub. I had a glass of wine and Danny enjoyed his French onion soup.

At the hotel, Danny booked a romantic dinner at Bistro Le Sam & Bar Atrium. This restaurant St. Lawrence. For appetizers, we ordered maple syrup duck wings and Atlantic salmon tartare. I had Cornish hen poached in buttermilk and Danni had pan seared leg of lamb. Of course we drank a lot of wine and shared a long dark chocolate cake.

Where To Stay In Québec City: The Hotel Guide

Danny and I hired a sitter to watch Gatsby for us while we took the dog boat to the Mi Loup Expedition! From the hotel we had to drive to Saint-Jean-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, which is about 20 minutes. If you are not arriving by car, the hotel can arrange transportation for you. I’ve been wanting to try dog sledding for ages! When we arrived we could feel the energy of these dogs as they were full of excitement and enthusiasm!

The meeting started with an introduction to safety and riding techniques and then we were off to the woods! I sat in the cart and Danny stood behind me to guide the cart. The adventure lasted about 1 hour and there was a 15-minute meeting with the cubs. The experience was everything I could have wished for and I am so grateful to have met these wonderful dogs. If you plan to try it, I recommend you come prepared with a ski jacket and pants. I was wearing warm leggings, not really enough to keep my legs warm.

Spending Christmas in Quebec is the perfect vacation. We had a wonderful stay at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and absolutely loved the winter atmosphere and festive spirit. I have no doubt that Gatsby felt the same way. Cold temperatures, snow, ice, grilled salmon and room service meats cooked to the perfect temperature, comfortable chairs and a comfortable double bed. What more could a Husky ask for? I bet this is Gatsby’s favorite vacation for a long time!
