Taking care of your pet’s needs is the first step to having a stress-free trip. Be sure to bring plenty of food and water for the trip, as well as bowls and a pet carrier. If you’re flying, you’ll need to check with the airline about their pet policy before booking your ticket. It is also a good idea to have a pet first aid kit.

Now that I have a dog, I want to take it with me when I swim. You can swim with a dog in a boat anywhere. However, it is difficult to find river teams that allow dogs on canoes.

Separation Anxiety In Dogs

Years ago I used to swim in boats, but those years are gone. Boats are more comfortable and social. You can walk around, float lazily down the river on a seat cushion, while everyone else is still in the boat, swim with 3-8 of your friends instead of just one person. And no fear of missing and losing any of your content.

When I was ready to plan a rafting trip this summer, I searched the Internet and found several options for dog owners who want to float with their dogs in the comfort of a raft. Since my friends and I only go to campgrounds with cabins, my list only includes campgrounds that offer cabin amenities.

Cell phone service: No (camp staff directed us back to the highway where we found AT&T and Verizon service)

Dog Policy: Officially, although many dogs are loose near the cabins, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. There is a $25 fee for dogs to stay in the cabins. There is no charge to float in the boats but you are responsible if the dog damages the boat.

I stayed at Bass River Resorts this summer in the Cozy Cabins. Each cozy cabin has air conditioning and heat, bathroom with shower, 2 full size beds and kitchenette with mini fridge, hot plate, microwave and coffee maker. Cabins are 2 per building and share a deck, with a fire ring and picnic table for each cabin. The cozy cabins are divided into 2 areas. Those of us who stayed looked at the river (units 1-4). I liked the place, but I wasn’t too happy with the picnic table and the fire rings were up a steep hill. It rained heavily the weekend we were there and the campsite was a bit flooded, so we decided not to sit in the grass or build a fire. It was nice to have a deck where we could sit outside to relax and eat. That being said, if there were strangers in the cabin we shared the deck with, we probably would have ended up with a ring of fire on the steep hill. Another row of cozy cabins were on level ground, but they were crowded together and looked like a trailer park. I don’t think I want to stay in them.

The camp office has everything you need. The office also had a large balcony where you could sit while checking email and Facebook on WiFi.

I definitely liked this campus more than any other I’ve stayed at. Later this summer I will go back to the river to swim in the rain and will have credits to use at the end of this year.

Dog Rules: Officially, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, although there were loose dogs everywhere. There is no charge for dogs to stay in the cabins or float on the boats.

Can I Bring My Dog To Rocky Mountain National Park?

Bird’s Nest Lodge has a variety of accommodation options. They have cabins and tent sites at the campground and several cabins nearby. We stayed at the Meramec River Lodge, 2 miles from the campground at the boat launch site. We also signed up for the package deal which includes 2 nights accommodation, swimming (depending on the boat you want) and food (dinner and 2 breakfasts).

I took my dog Milo and we went kayaking on Friday, then rafted on Saturday. River floats were typical of the Meramec. It’s not the prettiest or fastest river near St. Louis, but it’s still a fun day. The water was shallow in the first part of the swim and we had to get out a few times when we hit the gravel. By noon, we were in the deepest part of the river for the rest of the day.

I like that they don’t charge extra for dogs. And we had a great time on the river. That said, I will never return to this campus again.

The team was very disorganized. They did not indicate which room we would be staying in at the lodge. The end result is that I brought all my stuff up to the 3rd floor, then brought it back to the 1st floor, then brought it back up.

Ultimate Guide To Swimming With Pigs In The Bahamas

Garbage from the previous week was not emptied everywhere, and the one room I was supposed to stay in had only the mattress on the floor (which is why I moved back to complain! ).

I will say that the lodge has a nice wrap around porch and a really nice room with a pool table and ping pong. What they did not tell us when we booked is that the best rooms, the best rooms with balcony access, were only available for large groups to rent the entire place. Because of my complaint and all these rooms were empty they allowed me to choose any room I wanted.

Oh, and none of those 3rd floor bedrooms were lockable. How do you think someone would want to unlock things all day while swimming in the river.

Being 2 miles away from the main office was also a pain. Speaking of the office, the worst I’ve ever seen in a camp. The camp office is usually a store where you can buy anything you may have forgotten. Not in the bird’s nest. They had ice and that was about it. They also did not have wifi, which is rare.

The office is where you go for lunch (a real pain when you’re at the Meramec River Lodge 2 miles away). I signed up to pack all the food and not cook it. But the quality of the food was so poor that I would have preferred the breakfast bar and sub sandwiches. Dinner, they told us, would be pork chops. This is not. We were served chicken, which was good, but not what we expected or wanted.

Another thing we all really did not like is that it was not one of those camps where you enjoy your stay in nature. Everywhere you looked there were tents or cabins on top of each other.

Bottom line I would not stay here again. If you are looking for a day float with your dog, this is a great option. But think twice before signing up to stay at camp.
