Best Dog Friendly Resorts Texas – Fall is the perfect time of year to embrace nature for your Texas weekend getaways. The weather is finally getting colder, but not so cold that you need to pack your winter gear. Walking during the day is not only more bearable, but also more enjoyable, not to mention safer for you and your dog. At night, the temperature drops enough to build a nice fire under the stars where you can make s’mores or just curl up with your dog under a blanket.

Fortunately for San Antonio, there are many great places to visit within driving distance. Whether you’re looking for the ultimate camping experience, a luxury cabin, or something in between, there’s something for everyone. If quarantine and the hot summer months have you feeling trapped and anxious, then it’s time to pack your bags, get in the car, and head to one of these three spooky Texas weekend getaways.

If you spend any time on Instagram, you’ve probably seen these cute little cabins located in remote locations across the United States. There are three ports in Texas, all within driving distance of San Antonio: one outside Dallas (4.5 hours from SA), one outside Houston (3 hours from SA), and one outside Austin/ San Antonio (in Wimberley, actually only about 1 hour away)!

Although centrally located, each cabin has a comfortable double bed with stunning views of nature, a fully equipped bathroom with shower and toilet, and a kitchenette equipped with cooking utensils. Best of all, the Getaway is extremely pet friendly, with only a $40 fee for additional cleaning fees! They provide food and water bowls, puppy s’mores kits, and even have a long outdoor path where you can keep your dog but still give him room to roam.

According to the founders, Getaway was created “to give people time, space and permission not to fall. Our little nature cabins offer a break from the city, technology and work so you can recharge and connect with what you are and”. connect with what matters most.”

If you want to “get away” from it all without fighting it, this is the perfect weekend getaway for you and your dog!

If you’re looking for something more connected to nature, then 13 Acres Retreat might be the place for you! I first discovered this hidden gem when looking for a weekend getaway for my husband and my 2 year wedding anniversary last winter. These beautiful cabins are located on 13 acres of wilderness outside of Dripping Springs just an hour and a half from San Antonio.

Each cabin has air conditioning/heating, a small coffee maker, a comfortable bed with fresh linens, and beautiful views of the Texas hills. There are two combined toilets on site, but don’t let that put you off! They are beautifully decorated and kept impeccably clean! Other amenities include a water cooler to fill a reusable bottle, a sink with soap for washing dishes and hands, and a hot shower. However, it’s the outdoor shower that’s great, but can be a bit chilly if you visit in the colder months.

There is no shortage of things to do when you stay at 13 Acres Retreat. You can explore the property (note: there are no roads, so this is an adventure!) or hop in the car to see some of the nearby state parks, such as Pedernales Falls. If hiking isn’t your (or your dog’s) thing, you can also check out some dog-friendly wineries/bars, all within 20-30 minutes of the lodge. My personal favorite is Shadow Hawk Winery.

If you’ve never visited Lost Maps in the fall, YOU ARE MISSING OUT. Lost Maples State Natural Area is less than 2 hours from San Antonio and is known to be one of the few places in Texas where you can see spectacular fall foliage. You have to get it right because the leaves don’t start changing until the temperature drops – usually around mid-October or early November. Texas weather is always unpredictable, but you can see the park’s fall foliage color report here.

As the leaves begin to change color, the Lost Maps become the focus of the action! It is highly recommended that you book your camp in advance – sometimes up to a year in advance! Due to the COVID pandemic, access is even more limited and we ask that you reserve your tickets (both camping and day tickets) online or by calling the customer service center.

I promise you it’s worth it! Not only is Lost Maples a beautiful piece of nature year-round, but there are more than 10 miles of trails to explore, including a loop that takes you to the top of the 2,200-foot cliff. There are 30 campsites with water and electricity and about 50 basic campsites that you can walk to, many of which are within walking distance of composting toilets.

If you or your dog aren’t into camping, you can definitely take a day trip from Lost Maps. It’s definitely close enough to get there in the morning, enjoy the ride and come home in the afternoon. But it’s hard to beat a night or two under the stars, especially when it’s cold enough to crawl into a sleeping bag with your pup!

A Pet Friendly Day In Port Aransas

Win over $1,500 in beer and shopping at 14 local dog-friendly locations. One of the most common questions I get is if the places I go to in Texas are dog friendly! So I teamed up with my friends at Hipcamp to show you some of our favorite zoos near Austin. And if you’re new to Hipcamp, you can sign up here to get $10 off your first stay!

One of my favorite things about Hipcamp is that they actually have a “pets allowed” filter that you can use when searching for campsites and campsites on their website or app. It’s so easy to find pet-friendly glamping!

Is this the last place for a tree in Texas? Located near Bastrop in Paige, Texas, The Hobbit Nest is a true forest escape. As you might have guessed, the house is Lord of the Rings themed with lots of little decorative pieces to bring The Shire to life.

And best of all, it’s one of the most dog-friendly places you’ll ever find. In fact, their owners live nearby and their two dogs roam the property and will probably climb the tree to say hello!

There is no wifi, but there is a grill, a toilet, a shower and a small fridge, so I recommend cooking on site and making a reservation. Also, the sounds of nature are at their best here, especially with the “chorus of the frogs” that you will hear from the beautiful tree-lined pond.

This modern glamping retreat is located on the outskirts of Dripping Springs in the heart of the Texas Highlands. Options here at Lucky Arrow Retreat (Get $10 from Hipcamp for new users) include yurts, cabins, and terrace houses, depending on the size of your party and the experience you’re looking for. If you really want to explore, a yurt is the best option for you, as shown below.

Each can accommodate two people and has a shared bathroom nearby. For something a little more hotel-like, there are Patio Cabins, Breezeway Cabins and Terrace Cabins, each of which sleeps up to four guests and has its own bathroom.

Although this property is dog and cat friendly, you will be required to pay a $150 pet fee, which can be paid at the time of booking at the Hipcamp checkout (which will also confirm entry into one of designated pet-friendly rooms.) .

If you’ve ever wanted to sleep in a converted shipping container, then the FlopHouze Shipping Container Hotel in Round Top, TX is what you’ve been looking for. Sit around the fire pit and enjoy amazing stargazing, take a dip in the container pool and hit the town for retro shopping.

If you really want to have a good time, book your stay during the Round Top Antique Show (just book early because people come from all over!). And yes, pets are allowed for free!

Greenleaf Reservation, located near Bastrop, has four luxury yurts to choose from. But if you’re bringing your pet, his pet-friendly yurt is Copper Lily ($10 from Hipcamp for new users).
