Where Should My Family Go On Vacation – My three brothers and I, aged 22 to 32, like to spend holidays with our parents. Yes, you read that right. We have gone on family vacations every year for almost all of our 30 years of life.
According to AAA, more than a third of Americans planned to take a family vacation in 2016. That means more than 100 million people are spending quality time with their relatives.

Traveling with my family as an adult definitely has its advantages. Our daily lives are hectic, but these trips give us uninterrupted time to regroup, catch up, and focus on each other. With no kids, significant others, or friends around, it’s easy for my parents, sisters, brother, and I to connect and enjoy each other’s company without distractions. Family vacations as adults allowed my siblings and I to bond in ways we never could when we were younger. We no longer kick each other and steal each other’s fruit snacks. Going on holiday with my parents also means I get to travel and experience great places for free. While traveling isn’t free, traveling with your family as an adult can be very affordable since you can split the cost of everything from hotel rooms to meals.

Family vacations are great as adults, but that doesn’t mean it’s all fun and games. They can be difficult. However, there are special experiences that won’t be available to you in a few years as your family grows and develops. To benefit from it. Here are a few things I’ve learned to help you get the most out of your next family vacation.
This summer my family took a two week vacation to Italy. Both of my parents’ families are from Italy and my mother had been planning this trip for years. In the months before we left, I sat with my mother and brainstormed for hours on possible itineraries. This allowed me to keep track of what we did and when we did it. I was able to choose a few activities, and as a result, I knew there were parts of the trip that I would definitely enjoy (hello, tuk-tuks!).
Almost every day of our trip to Italy required us to go on some sort of excursion, often outdoors in the heat. These visits are out of date.
. Before we knew it, my brother was referring to them as death marches. At some point my mother also died. When you’re hot, sweaty and hungry, your feet hurt and you can’t hear anything about your stay in Rome anymore, you just want to focus on the negatives. But I won’t let myself. Instead, I focused on the amazing experience I was having and all the amazing things I was learning and seeing. My family used to make fun of these funeral services and today we laugh every time we mention them. So focus on what makes the vacation experience special.

Me, my mother and my sisters like shopping, my father and brother not so much. So we asked the men to do something they wanted while we shopped. It was the most important decision for all involved. It’s important to stick together as a family, but it’s also important to recognize that not everyone likes the same things. Enabling people to do the activities they love will help make travel more meaningful and special for everyone.
Before leaving for the trip, my mother had a clear idea of the specific place she wanted to visit. It didn’t show up on our itinerary and the transition would take more time in the sweltering heat and less time to do the things the rest of us really wanted to do. My brothers, my dad, and I knew how much it meant to my mom to leave, so we revamped our schedule and made it happen. After all, my mother’s happiness was our happiness. Vacations aren’t always about you, especially when it comes to family vacations. You must be flexible and willing to make concessions.
Going on a family vacation can be difficult at any age, especially when you’re an adult and feel like you have your own life to live. But family vacations can be wonderful experiences, and keeping these things in mind can help you create a trip you’ll really enjoy.
