Waterville Valley, New Hampshire is a great dog-friendly vacation destination. places to walk dogs. Finding great pet-friendly hotels and activities isn’t always easy. We’ve been traveling with our dogs for many years, and now we’ve branched out into pet travel as well! We’ve shared many of our awesome dog-friendly adventures on this blog and will continue to do so to help others plan their awesome dog-friendly vacations!

Dogs Luv Us And We Luv Them: Vacation With The Dog To Vermont And New Hampshire
Our last travel adventure with Icy and Phoebe was a trip to Waterville Valley, a New Hampshire ski resort. No, the dogs didn’t ski, I did! New Hampshire is one of the six states that make up New England, and it’s one of my favorite states in New England. The other states that make up the New England region of the northeastern United States are; Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. All these states are beautiful in every season and each state has something special to offer. However, we like New Hampshire best in both winter and summer. Waterville Valley is one of the best dog-friendly getaways we’ve been to, so we return as often as we can.
Waterville Valley Resort has so much fun to offer 🐶 Of course, the best thing about Waterville Valley for us is that they are dog friendly! 🐶 There is a charming little town square in the center of the resort, with several restaurants and shops around it. There is also a live webcam in the middle of the square, so you can see the activities in the town square at any time. The ski area also has a live webcam at the foot of the mountain. We are such nerds, we want to watch live webcams weeks before we go just to see what the snow looks like on the mountain and how packed it is! Click here to view the Waterville Valley live webcams called “Mountain Cams” (I love them!). ⛷ One of the beautiful cross-country tracks passes right behind the town square. Allows both foot traffic and (trained) dogs! The trail is beautiful and has several bridges over cascading waterfalls as well as a very nice tunnel that goes under the main road. We had fantastic long walks with the dogs on this route. It really is one of those things that makes us want to come back! ⛷ The ski area offers both cross-country skiing and downhill skiing (alpine). It’s great for us because I ski downhill but my husband walks. We take turns skiing and watching the dogs so it works perfectly for us! Trust me, it’s not easy to find a ski resort that offers both types of skiing and is dog friendly. 🐶 The resort has some pet-friendly apartments for rent, but you should book early as they fill up quickly. There’s only one pet-friendly hotel in the resort, but it’s a real dive and generally has great (well-deserved) reviews on TripAdvisor. You can read more about our trip to Waterville Valley two years ago when we stayed there. This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had! What a shame, they could do so much more with this prime real estate in the Waterville Valley.
The first time we went to Waterville Valley and I saw this trail marker, my heart skipped a beat! I’m used to seeing no dogs signs in many places, it’s refreshing to see a nice holiday resort that actually accepts dogs! A ski resort that offers alpine skiing and cross-country skiing and is dog-friendly!? Um… yes please!
We enjoy walking for an hour or two on this cross-country ski trail with dogs. This is one of my favorite things to do at the resort and of course the dogs love it!
Best Dog Friendly Vacation Destinations In New Hampshire
Planning a dog-friendly vacation takes time and research. It’s not always easy to find the right accommodation for both you and your dog. We had not planned this trip to Waterville Valley in advance. As I said before, there is only one pet friendly hotel in the resort and it is terrible. I will never stay there again. I checked the resort’s private vacation rentals to find a dog-friendly apartment or condo. There were many pet-friendly accommodations, but only a few were still available. Most of them are large and family-run. We didn’t need a place to sleep 6+ people so there was very little free space. However, after much research, we found the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Plymouth, New Hampshire. The hotel is owned by Marriott Hotels and is approximately 18 miles from Waterville Valley Ski Area. It seemed like a good option then, not exactly in the resort but possible. Well, it turned out to be a fantastic find!
The Plymouth, NH Fairfield Inn & Suites is relatively new and completely renovated. It was very clean and the staff was really nice, especially the general manager. Rooms have a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. The bathroom was great, clean and spacious and the shower had plenty of hot water! They didn’t tell us a million rules about what our dogs can’t do in the hotel, they just welcomed us. The icing on the cake, and something we didn’t know yet, is that this hotel offers discounted ski lift tickets to Waterville Valley! I only paid $41 for a full day midweek lift ticket. The regular midweek lift ticket price was $79! That’s a great savings and well worth the 18 mile drive to the ski resort.
But approved! Icy and Phoebe loved our room at the Fairfield Inn & Suites! They were very comfortable and happy there.
Waterville Valley is as beautiful in summer as it is in winter. I am already planning my trip this summer. I look forward to many walks with the dogs. Icy & Phoebe, get ready for more adventures in New Hampshire! What’s one of your favorite pet-friendly vacation spots? Let us know in the comments!

Although dogs are not allowed on New Hampshire state park beaches, there are several pet-friendly beaches along the state’s 17 miles of coastline. There are also lakes and lakeshores to explore, and plenty of trails to make sure your dog has as much fun as you do. Search for pet-friendly New Hampshire vacation rentals in charming towns like Portsmouth and New Castle, then check out one of these beautiful beaches.
Janes Beach has sand and waves that your four-legged friend can enjoy on a leash or off-leash under voice control. Dog hours on the beach start in the evening and end in the morning. From the Saturday before Memorial Day to the Saturday after Labor Day. Dogs can use the beach at any time during the rest of the year. Note that the town portion of Genesee Beach is separate from the state park owned beach. Like other state park beaches, dogs are not allowed on this stretch, so to get from one part of the town beach to the other, you can walk from the state park parking lot. After returning your dog to the vacation rental, dine with an ocean view at the Carriage House Restaurant or explore the ocean by renting a kayak from Portsmouth Kayak Adventures.
Located on the southern tip of the New Hampshire coast, Seabrook gives you and your family access to many vacation activities in nearby towns in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Check out Bux Lagoon Mini Golf, Casino Cascade Water Slide or Fanarama for some thrills during your stay. After you’ve done your time, pick up your dog from the vacation rental and head to Seabrook Beach. The city beach allows dogs on leashes from dusk to mid-morning from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During the rest of the year, your four-legged friend can join you at any time of the day.
Another dog-friendly beach in Rye, Foss Beach welcomes dogs at all times in the off-season, first thing in the morning and evening.
