Every dog needs some outside time and space to stretch their legs on the grass, especially in a busy city like New York. While there’s a lot of cement in the Big Apple, there are plenty of parks and dog parks to break up the concrete jungle for your furry friend. I include some of the largest and most convenient dog parks in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as some of the most popular dog parks. I must say that my dog has never tried a dog park because he is not the dog park type. The dog parks I recommend are conveniently located and have high ratings, and I’ve taken several dogs from them when I go dog walking in Manhattan. These are just a few of the dog parks and dog parks in NYC – there are dozens. If you’re traveling, contact your hotel for information about parks near where you’re staying.

The iconic Central Park is the most popular park in Manhattan and is centrally located. Central Park offers 843 acres of nature in the heart of Manhattan, stretching from 59th Street to 110th Street, covering Midtown Manhattan, the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, and Harlem.
The park is a great place to walk your dog, relax, have an open-air picnic, take in the sights or meet friends. If your dog is very active, the park’s trails include a 6.1-mile (about 10,000 ft) loop for running or walking, as well as a 2.5-mile gentle dirt path known as the Bridle Path Loop . The Bridle Path originates from the main loop and extends from the Central Park Reservoir to North Meadow Fields and the 102nd Street Transverse. Eventually, after a short while, it joins the main line at West Drive.
If you enjoy running with your dog or walking the trails in Central Park, check out my Central Park Running Guide for more tips on the best places to run in Central Park.
Central Park is one of the few parks in New York that allows dogs to roam in designated areas in the morning and evening. Some areas of Central Park are dog-free before 9:00 am and after 9:00 pm. For more information about designated dog areas, see the Central Park Dog Guidelines. Again, my advice to travelers is that unless your dog is in a fenced area, and even for local dogs, I would be very careful and only do this with a really well-trained dog. Will do. My dog, Akita, is quite independent and has a lot of prey (he’s caught two rats in total so far!) so I don’t let him out. Also, even if your dog is friendly, keep in mind that there may be other dogs on leash at the park who do not want the dog roaming free and may react aggressively.

The Best Dog Friendly Hiking Trails In Nyc!
In my opinion, Brooklyn Bridge Park is the most beautiful park in NYC. Enjoy spectacular waterfront views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Downtown Manhattan skyline at this well-maintained park in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Dumbo has a major walking, running and biking trail along the waterfront that is paved and dog-friendly. Make sure you stay away from the bike lane. I recommend walking on the ghats for a great view of the coast. From the pier you’ll be able to see the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
There are signs in some of the grassy areas of Brooklyn Bridge Park stating that dogs are not allowed, but don’t worry – in addition to the dog-friendly trails, the park also has two runs for dogs. Main Street Dog Run is located at Adams and Plymouth Streets next to the Brooklyn Bridge in the park. Pier 6 Dog Run Bridge is on the other side of the park between Park Drive and Furman Street. Both dog runs are fenced and are open daily from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm.
