It attracts more surfers, horse riders and picnickers than the party-seeking youth crowd, so it’s a good spot if you want to avoid the crowds at popular beaches like Portobello and Gullane.
The beach is a wide stretch of golden sand surrounded by dunes and grasslands, with rock pools for small children to play in.
It is believed to be Britain’s smallest harbour, accessible only from the coast and is known to serve the local lobster fishermen.

Seacliff Beach was declared a dog-friendly beach by Bath retailer Showers to You, after researching Google ratings and reviews from dozens of people around the country that do not have dog restrictions.
The private beach is 5 miles from North Berwick and the car park is accessed via a narrow road off the A198 at Aldham.

Turtle Door Beach in Dorset was named the UK’s dog-friendly beach, with nearby Man O’War Beach and Three Cliffs Bay in Wales coming in third.

If you decide to take this trip, you won’t be bothered at Seacliff. Located four miles east of the picturesque village of North Berwick, Seacliff is a private beach, ideal if you’re looking for some peace and quiet.

VisitScotland describes it as a “hidden gem” and says it is “largely unspoiled”. The beach is popular with dog walkers and surfers, but be sure to bring change as there is a parking fee with a coin barrier controlling the entrance.
Once there, you’ll find Britain’s smallest harbour. Built in 1890, it is a protected area with boat access via a small canal.

Also nearby are the ruins of Tantalon Fort with red sandstone curtain walls 15 meters high and 90 meters long. The fort was built in the 13th century and can still be visited today to see the relics of its past. The castle also has a place in Hollywood history and was featured in Scarlett Johansson’s Under the Skin.

Seacliff also offers fantastic views of the famous Bass Rock, home to the world’s largest northern boobies and many bird species. According to Undiscovered Scotland, Seacliff offers “some beautiful views”.
Seacliff has a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor. A recent customer said: “This is the perfect beach we could all have to ourselves. We walked both ends and visited England’s smallest harbour. It is very hidden at the west end and only accessible at low tide. Amazing views of Dantalan Castle and Bass Rock from the sea. Stormy seas and cold. Despite the wind, it was a lovely walk.
