Rich in history and the site of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home, Lincoln State Park has over 10 miles of hiking trails, rolling hills and two lakes. Dogs are welcome to explore this state park with you. You can visit the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, a pioneer farm, the Lincoln Cabin, the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the historic Twelve Stones. Want to stay all day? You can camp in this state park! It is great for an overnight stay.
If the bridge reminds you of a famous movie, you know why this county in Iowa is the only place to visit. Your dog is welcome to join you on the many covered bridges in this area of Iowa. Madison County is the bridge capital of Iowa. This is the largest local bridge group in the region! There are many bridges that are accessible by dirt roads, so leave the RV back at camp while you explore.

Over six years of traveling with our pets in RVs, when I think of one of the places that surprised me the most was the Feet Under the Chalk Pyramid in Kansas. Not many tourists know about this destination, but now the secret is out! At the western edge of Gove County in Kansas are Monument Rocks. This is a series of large chalk pieces known as chalk pyramids. Dogs are allowed on leashes and you will feel like you are on another planet. This is a once in a lifetime experience.

Originally from Florida, we love the beach! But after watching Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with Brickell and Digby, I now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore features sandy and snowy beaches overlooking Lake Michigan. As with many areas, there are some beaches that do not allow dogs, so check with friendly park staff, get a map or browse the internet. We found that Brickell and Digby could go more places than we expected on this beautiful lake. But remember that dogs are not allowed to climb the mountain for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel as tall as Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, Minnesota! This was a nice stop for us on our trip. Meet the huge statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox for a great photo opportunity. This street attraction has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Built in 1937, Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox Babe stand on the shores of Lake Bemidji near the Tourist Information Center. After you get the best pictures of your dog, visit Itasca State Park nearby. Here you can see the headwaters of the Mississippi from walking and eating!
Named after the huge sandstone cave in Indian Cave State Park next to the magnificent Missouri River. Your dog will thank you for bringing him here for camping, hiking and hiking on the 22 mile trail! Indian caves are the main geographical features of the park and contain Native American prehistoric inscriptions! Be sure to keep your dog on a leash and clean up after them to protect this beautiful site.
We generally tend to stay away from big cities on our RV trips because our dogs are older. But we found Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri to be a great balance of urban and exotic. Two iconic buildings in this 91-acre park will take your breath away. Your dog will enjoy walking the green grass and parking lot, watching horses and wheelchairs, walking and relaxing with food. Stray dogs can explore the park and walk along the river.

We love street attractions and whimsical places, and the dog-loving Frontier Village really checked all our boxes! The original building was brought to the site of the border village of North Dakota. A display full of unique artifacts and artifacts is a great way to learn about North Dakota and its history. If you are looking for the largest Buffalo Palace in the world, you have found it! Near Frontier Village, visit this special place for photography. You just can’t resist!
The park is a beautiful sanctuary for native plants and wildlife, and your dog is welcome to explore the 100+ miles of this national park with you. Why is Cuyahoga Valley National Park dear to my heart? There’s wine in the park! Yes, a liquor store for dogs! After walking and exploring, sit under a tree at the Sarah vineyards with your dog. As with any park, check the national park’s pet restrictions before visiting.
Custer State Park is a South Dakota State Park and Wildlife Sanctuary in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Custer State Park is famous for herds of cattle, hiking, historic sites, resorts and campgrounds. It was named as one of the best ten natural destinations in the world for the natural territory within the limits of the park. Just 15 miles from Custer, this state park is expansive and inspiring!
I still remember how Digby looked at me as we stood on the bank of the Apostle. The wind is blowing, the sun is shining and all is right in our travel world. Dogs are welcome to explore this Wisconsin treasure with you. You will see windy beaches and sandstone cliffs. Take a walk with your dog and get a wonderful Lake Superior experience.

Our traveling family found that exploring this area of the US gave us a little more freedom once we set up the RV in the campground in our separate vehicle. For the crust, mix all the ingredients and leave in a warm place for an hour. Roll out the dough and spread it on a greased pan or pizza pan. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Bake the crust for 15 minutes and remove from the oven. Place the cheese and fries on the crust and spoon the tomato juice mixture over the top. Return to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving to your dog.
