Best Dog Friendly Towns In Colorado – I thought I’d start with a hike that begins in one of the most photographed places in Colorado: Maroon Lake. Maroon Lake is home to the Maroon Bells, two of Colorado’s four highest peaks (mountains over 4,000 feet high). This place definitely sees a lot of people and puppies during the day because it is so charming and approachable. You can park just a few hundred meters from the lake or drive to Maroon Lake during the hours when cars are closed. One thing you need to be sure of is proper planning!
From Maroon Lake you can take the trail to Crater Lake, a moderate hike of about 2.5 miles to the lake. Here you can get an even better idea of how big Maroon bells really are!

From Crater Lake you can decide if you want to go on a more challenging hike with more distance and higher elevation. If this sounds like something you and your dog are planning, continue on the Buckskin Pass Trail! Climbing higher into the trees offers amazing views. But once you reach the top, nothing beats the view from the other side of the pass!

From the top of the pass you can see many peaks and Snow Lake in the distance. When I hiked up Buckskin Pass for the first time and saw Snowy Lake in the distance, I knew I had to go there someday. Naturally, we recently decided to take Koda on this adventure and boy did he have the time of his life! If you’re up for a unique adventure, be prepared to take a very long hike (approximately 25km round trip) or stay overnight and backpack to this amazing lake!

So let’s go to a place you wouldn’t even think existed in a place like Colorado. The giant sand dunes nestled in the mountains offer a truly unique hiking opportunity in Great Sand National Park! Since there is no marked trail along the sand, you can choose your own path to get amazing views of the sandy area and the surrounding mountains! This is one of the few national parks that allows dogs, so it is important to follow all rules and regulations!
When in the mountains, be sure to try sandboarding or roller skating! You can rent from a small shop outside the park! This attraction may be more geared towards people, but if you head out early enough in the summer season, pups can run around in the sand at Medano Creek! Please note that the sand can be very hot, so I recommend hiking early and late and wearing shoes to protect your pup’s feet!
Dog Friendly Elopement Locations In Colorado
There’s nothing better than hiking with your dog in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado! The beautiful blue peaks and lakes make this place my absolute favorite! I always want to come back and discover everything these mountains have to offer!
The approximately 7.5-mile hike with 2,900 feet of elevation gain leads to some of the most beautiful lakes you will ever see. First, a frozen lake with water so blue you won’t believe it’s real, and then an island lake, named after the beautiful island in the middle of the lake!
The trip to these areas can be extended by visiting other lakes in the glacier basin. This area is also a great place for tourists!
I couldn’t make a list of the best hikes with your dog without including the highest peak! When choosing such a handle, it is important to know your and your dog’s capabilities! Mount Sniktau is a mountain with a height of 13 er or 13,000 feet. Although this is a very short hike, since it starts at Loveland Pass which is already at about 10,000 feet, it is sure to get your heart and lungs pumping!

Views from peaks like Mount Snicketau are some of my favorites because you can see many of Colorado’s mountains from there. Snicketau Mountain offers views not only of some of Colorado’s 14-year-olds, but also of ski resorts including Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin. Standing on this mountain, you truly feel on top of the world! On this adventure you may be greeted by happy animals such as pikas and marmots, but remember that your dog may chase them like I did!
Finally, I’ll end the list with one of our favorite “backyard” destinations. We love living near God’s garden. There are many trails throughout the park that offer views of amazing rock formations as well as Pikes Peak. This is a great place for a short hike with plenty of options for longer sections. The park even has several paved paths, making it a great place for a beautiful sunset walk!
When hiking in Colorado with your dog, it is always important to research the area to understand the difficulty level and distance. Moreover, attention should be paid to the rules that are necessary in this regard. For example, many of these tours require dogs to be kept on a leash.
